AU Core Backlog Pitch Presentations – November 2025 – OPEN UNTIL 20 October 2025

As the most recent ballot window for AU Core has closed, our focus is looking toward what is next and what should be prioritised for the next release.

Members of the Sparked Community are invited to complete an EOI, sharing what profile, actor, or capability statement they would like to see the AU Core Technical Design Group prioritise over the next 9 months.

At the upcoming in-person AU Core Technical Design Group workshops in Canberra on Thursday, 13 November, eight elevator pitch-style presentations will be delivered in a fast-paced, energetic format. These ‘rapid fire’ pitches aim to identify the Sparked Community’s priority areas of the AU Core backlog efficiently.

The purpose of each pitch is to share a priority area, supported by a clear justification or use case, and articulation of value and benefits.

Following the presentations, there will be time for questions and open discussion. The session will conclude with a Menti vote to help identify top priority areas for the next phase of AU Core IG development.

These pitches will support the initial discussions around the scope of the next release of AU Core but are not the only opportunity to contribute. Further discussions will be held in the online AU Core TDG meetings following the in-person workshop.

As there are a limited number of spots on the agenda for these pitches, we highly recommend providing a detailed and well justified EOI response.

For reference, here is what AU Core is designed to do:

AU Core is provided to support the use of HL7® FHIR®© in an Australian context. It defines the data model and RESTful API interactions that set minimum expectations for a system to record, update, search, and retrieve core digital health and administrative information.

AU Core promotes interoperability and adoption through common implementation and provides the basis for further implementation guide development for specific use cases, for example AU eRequesting and AU Patient Summary.

We encourage anyone interested to first review the below information and FAQs, then complete the EOI form.

We are asking that each EOI selected one of the following two options for their submission:

  • Option 1: Pitch for updating an existing profile, actor, or capability statement that is already part of AU Core
  • Option 2: Pitch for a new profile, actor, or capability statement to be added to AU Core

Please note:

  • The EOI form is available for download below and will be open for responses until COB Monday, 20 October
  • Please send your complete EOI to Sparked@csiro.au
  • We will review all EOI responses, and let the successful applicants know from Monday, 27 October
  • Please consider that this is to be part of the next release of AU Core, and keep in mind the design principles and the overarching ‘minimum’ approach
  • If selected, the EOI form you submit will be what is used as the slide for your presentation

Q: When does the EOI close?

A: The EOI submission period closes at COB Monday 20th October. Make sure to email your completed EOI submission form to Sparked@csiro.au by the closure date to be considered.

Q: Where will the pitches be taking place?

A: The AU Core Backlog Pitch Presentations will be taking place at the in-person Sparked AU Core Technical Design Group Workshops in Canberra on Thursday, 13 November.

Q: How do I complete the EOI form?

A: The EOI form is a simple PowerPoint slide which details the key components we are seeking for these pitches. Please submit the PowerPoint file to the Sparked team by emailing Sparked@csiro.au by the closure date.

Q: Will the elevator pitch slides be made available to those who are unavailable to attend in person?

A: They absolutely will be – they will be made available following the workshops with the other presentation materials from the day.

Q: Can I pitch more than one profile, actor, or capability statement in my presentation?

A: If your pitch is successful, you can only pitch what was in the original submission only.

Q: Can more than one person be present on the day to give the presentation?

A: Sure! But the pitch is strictly three minutes each, so you will need to use your time wisely.

Q: But I want everything!

A: Keep in mind that we are looking for the next logical step for AU Core, and thinking about the Principles for inclusion in AU Core, and what can be achieved in the next 9 months.

Q: How will I know if my EOI has been selected?

A: We will review all submissions, with all candidates advised of the outcome from Monday, 27 October.

Q: My EOI has been accepted, but I don’t have a ticket to attend the workshop day. Can I still attend?

A: Just let the Sparked team know by emailing Sparked@csiro.au, and we can work with you to find a solution.

Q: What happens if my EOI is unsuccessful?

A: Your contribution will still be taken into consideration and added to the AU Core backlog.

Q: Can the profile / actor / capability statement be one that is not included on the existing backlog?

A: Absolutely! The existing backlog is what has been captured to date, and we want to continue to capture what the community deems as a priority going into the next release of AU Core.

Q: I have more than one profile / actor / capability statement I would like considered. Do I need to submit an EOI for each profile / actor / capability statement I would like to pitch?

A: Yes – you need to submit a separate EOI for each profile, actor, or capability statement you would like considered.

Q: What happens if the pitch is one of the priority areas selected on the day by the Community?

A: As a community FHIR capability building opportunity, we will work with you to develop the profile, actor, or capability statement the community voted for.

Q: Is this the only opportunity to contribute to scoping the next release of AU Core?

A: No, this is only the beginning. The discussions will be continued in the fortnightly, online AU Core TDG meetings, and follow the usual discussion and voting processes.

Q: My question hasn’t been answered here, or I need some help with my EOI submission

A: No worries, reach out to the Sparked team by emailing Sparked@csiro.au.
