Australian eRequesting Data for Interoperability (AUeReqDI)

The AUeReqDI builds upon the work and community of Australian Core Data for Interoperability (AUCDI) and focuses on the use case of electronic requesting and ordering.

Just like the AUCDI, the AUeReqDI is intentionally agnostic of:

  • Any single clinical system vendor while still being informed by functionality and data available in current clinical systems.
  • Any single current referrer-consumer-provider workflow, while still being informed by the requirements to support directed and undirected workflows, and
  • Any single technical implementation or exchange approach while providing the clinical data requirements for developing the FHIR AU eRequesting Implementation Guide (IG).

The AUeReqDI:

  • Supports requesting and ordering in an Australian health context,
  • Describes and defines a set of data groups comprising of one or more data elements, forming the foundation of a common language to allow systems to exchange semantically accurate data for electronic requests and orders more efficiently,
  • Incorporates and builds upon existing standards and prior work from national and international programs and initiatives including the AUCDI, the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA)’s Pathology Terminology and Information Standardisation Projects and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR)’s Radiology Referral Set. It has not been developed in isolation, and
  • Is a living artefact that will evolve and grow in future iterations to support addition request use cases – adding breadth by including new clinical data groups and depth by expanding with further granular detail.

AUeReqDI Release 1 (R1) is focussed on pathology and medical imaging requesting.
